In my process of character development i created my version of how I would portray Florizel, The Waiter, Servant and The Lord. For the Waiter i had a Brooklyn accent and was very fond of Mamilius whenever he was at the cafe. My Lord character was from New York and in the court scene is where i had to be quite serious about my character because of the situation about Leontes and his wife and as i was the one that read out what was going to happen to everyone from the oracle. Finally my main character in the play was Florizel. This character was the stereotypical romantic character who was all loved up by this woman that had come into his life, to properly portray my character I had to show the love and affection I had towards Perdita. When building my character I had to show that I was in love with Perdita but I could not go over the top with the character but as it was Shakespeare and a play on stage we were able to get away with a bit of over acting.

My Characters Appearances

In the play The Winters Tale I have three characters they are Waiter, Lord/Servant and Florizel.

For the lord I will try to find a trench coat with trousers and a shirt.

For the waiter at the beggining i will wear the same as the Lord but without the waist coat.
For Florizel i will wear black shoes, black trousers, shirt and a waist coat

A Winter's Tale
For our version of The Winter's Tale we are using a shortened down version of the full script

There are many versions and styles of The Winter's Tale like the animated version. The version that we will be doing is set in the 1920's-1930's so we will be gangster gangs and mobs.

A quick summery of The Winter's Tale is that a king is accusing his wife of adultery so he commands one of his closets friends Camillo to kill the man that he thinks that's he is sleeping with witch is Polixenes. Camillo goes to warm Polixenes about what the king thinks that he has done so Camillo goes with him. Later on in the play Leontes takes his wife to court and this is where everything comes out as lies but he doesn't believe it.

The second scene starts with Polixenes and Camillo talking about how long it has been since they have been home the it goes to Florizel and Perdita having a party and Polixenes and Camillo turn up and see him and because Florizel is a prince and he is caught with a commoner so he is exiled so he goes to Leontes for help. In the final scene Paulina reveals that she has made a sculptor of Hermioni but it is actually her and everyone is happy.

On page 51 of the play Florizel and Perdita are going behind their fathers backs in order to be together, also Camillo is going behind Polixenes' back to help them get away, then later on Camillo betrays them and tells their fathers. In this scene the main theme is betrayal as everyone is not keeping their word and going behind everyone's backs.

We tried to make the play as relevant to the audience as possible, we thought this would have been possible if we changed the time when the play was set so we placed it in the 1920's to the 1930's if we had moved it any more closer than that then I think that the audience wouldn't have been able to make any more sense of it than they did. they also may have been able to relate to the play if they had been in one of the situations that one of the characters may have been in, maybe not exactly but just a little like maybe having to obey your parents rules and not what you want to do, going behind someone's back to get what you want or maybe to help them, or in some circumstances maybe even running away from home if you are unhappy with the way that things are so you made the choices to be happier.

Some other themes in the play that we came across where jealousy, this is the catalyst of the play because without this in the beginning of the play with with the jealousy between Leontes, Polixenes and Hermioni the other things in the play wouldn't have happened. Friendship was a large theme in this play as this is what everyone starts off as then eventually ends up as at the end of the play, some of the main friendships in the play are between Leontes and Polixenes as they have been friends for years, Paulina and Hermioni this is the same case with Leontes and Polixenes, there is a small triangle of friends with Camillo, Leontes and Polixenes this is because they both listen to Leontes' orders and commands, there is Paulina and Leontes but though there is a lot of hatred in this play between them in the end Paulina forgives Leontes as she can see what 16 years of moaning over his dead wife and child that he caused to loose their lives over jealousy and power finally sees what he done when his wife returns to him. The last friendship in the play is one that we are never able to see, and this is between Mamilius and Florizel, now we never see this friendship is the play as Mamilius dies in the beginning of the play due to unknown causes but it could have been the stress seeing his parents going through this, when they were older they could have been friends as their fathers were very close.
Also in this play death is a major theme as it happens a lot in the play or has a constant threat throughout it. What Shakespeare could have been trying to do is insult the way that the law may have ran in those times or even sometimes today as the good people who were honest and faithful lost their lives like Mamilius and the people that had done wrong got the chance to carry on like Leontes. Another way to look at death in this play is not actually death itself but something close to death like the impact that everything has on Hermioni and Leontes doesn't cause them to die but causes them to die in the period of time which it all happened like Leontes visiting the graves of his wife and child every day and Hermioni frozen in time having to stay inside all the time in order not to be seen by anyone but Paulina. All of the deaths in this play have a big impact to all of the other characters as they would have been very close to them like Mamilius' death was a big impact because no one was expecting it to happen. Finally another main theme in this play is betrayal, this happens almost constantly throughout the play, this may be because some people are not trusted like Polixenes or that when an order is given someone else might think that they know a better solution were no one will get hurt liken when Camillo warns Polixenes to run away or be sentenced to death. it is also shown at the end of the play when Florizel and Perdita betray their fathers when they wish to be together but are not aloud because he is a prince and she is just a farmer and betrayal between fiends like Leontes and Polixenes because there isn't enough trust and faith in their friendship.

We can use Freytags's pyramid in this play, you can see this in anything that you see or even day to day life. This simply means that at the start of everything is the intro then their is a rising action that leads to the climax of the play which in this case following the main story-line would be when Mamilius and Hermioni dies and he realises what he ha done, then the falling action is everything that follows after the main climax then the ending is call the denouement (day-new-mon).
